Dr. Sherif Farouk, chairman of the board of Directors of the Egyptian post, chaired the 44th meeting of the permanent Arab postal committee in the presence of the heads of postal administrations from 18 Arab countries, the representative of the director general of the Universal Postal Union, Mr. Hashem al-Haj, the Minister Plenipotentiary Khaled Wali, director of the Department of communications and Information Technology Development at the general secretariat of the league of Arab states, and Mokhtar Al-shadly, the regional adviser of the Universal Postal Union in charge of the Arab region, at the headquarters of the general secretariat of the league of Arab states.
During his speech, Dr. Sherif Farouk, chairman of the board of Directors of the Egyptian post and chairman of the permanent Arab postal Committee, conveyed the greetings of Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of communications and information technology, to all participating countries, stressing the importance of strengthening Arab cooperation in the postal sector and intensifying the efforts of Arab countries through the establishment of a solidarity mechanism between Arab postal institutions to exchange postal and logistical experiences and enhance cooperation between Arab countries and come up with the best results and proposals that express the interests of Arab countries and presented by the Universal Postal Union.
Dr. Sherif Farouk, chairman of the board of Directors of the Egyptian Post, explained that the meetings of the Arab permanent postal committee at its forty-fourth session are of great importance, as they deal with discussing important axes and topics that enhance joint Arab cooperation in light of the regional and global challenges facing the postal sector during the current period, and how to overcome them, and provide innovative solutions and services to serve citizens in all Arab countries within the framework of the recommendations of the Universal Postal Union for the regional development plan for Arab countries; with the aim of upgrading the level of services and promoting e-commerce in all Arab countries.
Dr. Sherif Farouk, chairman of the board of Directors of the Egyptian Post, pointed out that during the meeting of the committee, the issuance of a joint Arab postage stamp on Gaza was discussed documenting the current events in Gaza and expressing the solidarity of Arab countries with the Palestinian cause, as well as the wage system for letters, parcels and urgent mail for 2024 was adopted, in addition to discussing the Arab Regional Development Plan 2022 – 2025, as well as discussing the report of the meetings of the boards of directors and investment of the Universal Postal Union for the fourth session last November, in addition to presenting the results of the fourth extraordinary conference of the Universal Postal Union, whose events were held last October in Riyadh, congratulating the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the success of hosting the conference in such an honorable form, and Dr. Sherif Farouk, head of the Egyptian post, congratulated the Arab postal administrations that achieved achievements and honorable results according to the integrated index of postal development for 2023 issued by the Universal Postal Union.
Dr. Sherif Farouk also expressed his happiness that the United Arab Emirates will host the twenty-eighth Congress of the Universal Postal Union next year, wishing the success of the conference, stressing his confidence in the honorable outcome of the conference for the Arab region, and the full support of the Egyptian post to the UAE.
For his part, Minister Plenipotentiary Khalid Wali, director of the communications and Information Technology Development Department at the general secretariat of the league of Arab states, stressed the importance of this session of the Arab permanent postal committee meetings, as it is the first after the fourth extraordinary conference of the Universal Postal Union hosted by the city of Riyadh during the period from October 1 to 5, 2023 in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where all the outputs of this conference were reviewed, expressing his happiness with the active participation of Arab countries in this conference, which witnessed a unified position of Arab countries on The importance of assessing the impact of integrated products on Arab countries, discussing mechanisms to support Arab postal administrations to meet the challenges posed by advanced technology and discussing ways to transform these challenges into opportunities for the development of the Arab postal sector.
It is worth mentioning that the meetings of the Arab permanent post committee is a committee emanating from the Council of Arab ministers for communications and Information Technology, and the meeting of the committee at its current session was preceded by preparatory meetings of its task forces during the period from January 8 to 9.
